How to make sponge cake
To make a sponge cake, we will need wheat flour, sugar, orange juice, baking powder, egg yolks and beaten egg whites. We will beat the ingredients for the sponge cake batter in a mixer, following the order of addition and preparation, leaving the baking powder and beaten egg whites for last and mixing gently. Then, we will pour this batter into a greased rectangular pan lined with parchment paper and bake the sponge cake for approximately 45-50 minutes in a preheated oven at 180 degrees. We will remove it from the oven, unmold it and enjoy each delicious slice of this beautiful sponge cake!
Ingredients for sponge cake recipe
- 3 cups (tea) of wheat flour
- 2 cups of sugar
- 300 ml orange juice
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 6 egg yolks
- 6 egg whites
Preparation method
- Place the egg whites in a bowl and beat until stiff. Set aside.
- In a mixer, place the strained egg yolks and orange juice and beat well for about 7 minutes until foamy.
- Add the sugar and beat a little more for 5 minutes. Add the sifted wheat flour and beat to incorporate.
- Add the baking powder and mix lightly, and finally add the egg whites and mix gently with movements from bottom to top to aerate the dough.
- Pour this mixture into a rectangular pan (35 cm x 24 cm) greased and lined with baking paper, and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 45-50 minutes.
- Remove from the oven, let cool and unmold onto a serving dish.
