 How to make sponge cake 

To make a sponge cake, we will need wheat flour, sugar, orange juice, baking powder, egg yolks and beaten egg whites. We will beat the ingredients for the sponge cake batter in a mixer, following the order of addition and preparation, leaving the baking powder and beaten egg whites for last and mixing gently. Then, we will pour this batter into a greased rectangular pan lined with parchment paper and bake the sponge cake for approximately 45-50 minutes in a preheated oven at 180 degrees. We will remove it from the oven, unmold it and enjoy each delicious slice of this beautiful sponge cake!

Ingredients for sponge cake recipe 

  • 3 cups (tea) of wheat flour 
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 300 ml orange juice 
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder 
  • 6 egg yolks 
  • 6 egg whites 

Preparation method 

  1. Place the egg whites in a bowl and beat until stiff. Set aside. 
  2. In a mixer, place the strained egg yolks and orange juice and beat well for about 7 minutes until foamy. 
  3. Add the sugar and beat a little more for 5 minutes. Add the sifted wheat flour and beat to incorporate. 
  4. Add the baking powder and mix lightly, and finally add the egg whites and mix gently with movements from bottom to top to aerate the dough.
  5. Pour this mixture into a rectangular pan (35 cm x 24 cm) greased and lined with baking paper, and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 45-50 minutes. 
  6. Remove from the oven, let cool and unmold onto a serving dish. 
  7. And the most delicious sponge cake in the world is ready!
